Diode lasers use the principle of selective photothermolysis to target specificchromophores in the skin, usually melanin or blood. The lasers damage thechromophores by selectively heating them while leaving surrounding tissueunharmed. When treating unwanted hair, for example, the melanin in the hairfollicles is targeted and damaged which results in the disruption of hair growthand regeneration.
532 nm wavelength lasers are primarily used to removesuperficial moles and spots around the eyes, includingbut not limited to birthmarks, nevus of Ota, melanocyticnevi, coffee spots, freckles, various pigmentations.eyebrow tattoos, and eyeliner tattoos.
